How do I make my own rawhide knot / homemade chew toy?
I have a lab that WILL eat anything and I've found the right size rawhide allows her to chew without taking off large chunks. This allows her to chew chew chew without the threat of blockage or intestinal punctures you get from Greenies and regularly formed rawhide. How do I make my own or locate a rawhide knot without the long skinny part which she powers through and threatens her health?
Nyla bones and Bonga toys don't have enough flavor for her to stay interested. Adding frozen peanut butter attracts insects and stains the carpet. Regular bones might chip her teeth... I'd like to find a safe alternative for a dog who has eaten a plastic planter.(she'll eat anything when bored) ... digging it out of her rear was not fun.
She gets regular walks and we also go running. Chewing is a breed issue, not a boredom one.
The reason for making my own is to delete the long portion which is easily torn off and could cause digestive problems. I thought I said that...
Raw hides are extremely unhealthy for dogs. As they stick to their teeth and are hard to digest.
A natural bone will not chip her teeth. Dogs teeth are extremely strong.
You can also try a Kong. You can fill the Kong with a mixture of peanut butter, kibble and wet dog food. It will keep her busy for hours. Also during the summer you can freeze flavored water in it.
